Engineering Geology

ERT's expert staff includes geologists and engineers who specialize in the interface between geology and engineering. Our registered and licensed professionals can address a wide array to technical problems related to interaction of engineering works and geology.

Geologic Hazard Assessment:

Sinkholes, earthquake risks, flood analysis, landslides and slope stability. ERT has a wide array of geophysical and geological exploration techniques that allow for the assessment and mitigation of wide variety of geologic hazards.

Dam and Levy Assessment:

ERT experts can combine geophysical and other exploration techniques to perform cost effective and complete surveys of earthen dams and levy systems.

Groundwater Infiltration and Seepage:

ERT has the established resources and techniques to allow for the complete assessment and mitigation of groundwater infiltration and seepage problems. Quarries and other projects involving excavation have utilized ERT’s services in order to find the source of water infiltration and help plan and specifiy various mitigation techniques.

ERT Success Story: Sinkhole mapping at Route 1-70, Frederick, MD

Following the discovery of large sinkhole immediately adjacent to I-70, the Maryland State highway Administration contracted ERT to map other hidden sinkholes located in near the route I-70 that could impact the interstate or it's planned expansion. ERT used a combination of geophysical techniques and basic geologic mapping to identify several sinkholes that may impact the interstate.
