IT Specialist - #1154

Position Description

Provide IT technical support to approximately 30 users at the Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries. The mission of NOAA's National Marine Sanctuaries is to serve as the trustee for the nation's system of marine protected areas, to conserve, protect, and enhance their biodiversity, ecological integrity and cultural legacy. Responsibilities include:

Help Desk and Technical Support - Set up new machines/new accounts (workstation, telephone, voicemail, etc.) and train staff in hardware and software, provide hardware and software upgrades; multimedia support, support for database and GIS projects/workstations. Setup, troubleshoot, and support computer needs for scientific cruises working with boat personnel and scientists.

IT Office Management - Provide input for IT planning, budgeting, prioritizing, and acquisition; develop and maintain 3-year purchasing/implementation plan; research, setup, troubleshoot, and maintain office equipment and network appliances; track software licensing and inventory.

Security and Network - Maintain and enhance backup strategy and systems; maintain file-server systems; perform backups; apply security patches, virus protection, upgrades, upgrade network/security and encryption of laptops and mobile devices. Reporting, and testing to ensure certification and accreditation of security polices.

Telephone/Voicemail/Scheduling Software - Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot telephone, telephone network, and voicemail system.

Website Management: Manage/update/maintain website and pod-casting.

Required Skills

5 years experience with IT Management. Experience with Microsoft and Apple Operating Systems, MS Office, networking, helpdesk request tracking, anti-virus software, IT security, user training, and phone system administration. Occasional lifting, handling , and moving of IT equipment required. One day per week local travel is required to Olema, CA.

Education

BA/BS in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
