Environmental Services

In our quest to ensure a safe and healthful environment we integrate multi-disciplinary environmental engineering and science expertise to conserve or protect the environment, ensure regulatory compliance, and prevent or remediate environmental damage.

ERT provides environmental conservation, compliance, restoration, and pollution prevention services. Services include environmental management system (EMS), planning, documentation, safety and industrial hygiene, GIS, sustainable development, investigations and field studies, engineering support and remedial design, response actions, removals, and operations and maintenance.

  • Environmental Conservation: Our ecologists, biologists, archaeologists, environmental scientists, regulatory specialists, GIS specialists and outreach specialists support the conservation and protection of natural resources and the environment. We have specialized experience with the protection of the nation's 13 national marine sanctuaries and dozens of fishery management zones. Our staff works to recognize, understand, forecast and respond to natural and human-caused environmental changes; preserve historical, cultural and archaeological resources; and protect and manage resources through regulations, permitting, incident response and contingency planning, damage assessment and restoration, and enforcement.
  • Environmental Compliance, Pollution Prevention, and Sustainability Development: Our environmental scientists, engineers, and outreach specialists provide technical and management support at a number of NASA and NWS facilities in the areas of environmental compliance, pollution prevention, occupational safety and industrial hygiene, pollution prevention and sustainability. We manage air, water, waste, and NEPA management programs in these facilities. We also support our clients in the implementation of environmental management systems and provide regulatory compliance and permitting support.
  • Environmental Restoration: Our environmental scientists and engineers have successfully completed hundreds of environmental restoration projects at public and private sector sites contaminated with hazardous, toxic and radioactive waste (HTRW). Our support includes field sampling design and implementation, site characterization, remedial alternatives analysis, remedial design, and remedial and removal activities. Our military-trained and certified unexploded ordnance (UXO) specialists develop and review safety plans, provide personnel training and escort/clearance support, and perform munitions removal and response activities. Our UXO specialists, scientists and engineers have assessed hundreds of military operational ranges for potential impact to the environment.
  • Geographic Information System Development and Applications: Our GIS specialists have developed and maintained a variety of GIS products including legally binding boundaries, wetlands and forest stands, site maps showing military ranges or contamination plumes, three-dimensional perspectives, satellite images, marine navigation charts, video flyovers, and multi-layer maps of major coastal features and habitats. We provide GIS products over the web with interactive web mapping. We design, develop, maintain and update spatial datasets and detailed specifications for datasets including metadata documentation.
  • Geophysical and Hydrographic Survey Services: Our geophysicists have used a variety of geophysical survey and detection technologies for the detection and/or mapping of munitions and explosives of concern (MEC), landfills, subsurface structures, contamination plumes, and archaeological remains. The technologies include ground penetrating radar, seismic refraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic/electromagnetic, and multichannel analysis of surface waves. Our hydrographers perform hydrographic surveys in the bays, along the estuaries, and in the marine sanctuaries to map the bottom of the river, bay and oceans for navigation and environmental conservation purposes. Our staff support NOAA's Marine Chart Division to integrate and publish the navigation data.
  • Public Outreach and Stakeholder Communications: ERT provides public outreach and communication support for environmental conservation, compliance and restoration efforts. ERT's staff develop communication strategies and materials, facilitate stakeholder/public meetings, develop education and training products and exhibits, design and develop media projects and site profiles, and offer training lessons and seminars.
