ERT today announced the award of a task order by NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) for the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) Software Development Team (ASDT). Under this contract, ERT will provide system analysis and software engineering support for the design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation of AWIPS functionality.

AWIPS is a critical tool utilized by weather professionals nationwide for weather forecasting and display. It provides near real-time environmental data and visualizations, enabling the dissemination of weather statements in a time-sensitive manner. The ASDT is responsible for the development of new features and enhancements, many of which begin with requests from the user community.

This award is a task order under the company’s NOAALink contract vehicle, through which ERT has successfully supported the ASDT as the prime contractor for the last three years. The new period of performance is one year beginning on March 31, 2018 and will take place at NWS headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland. The contract has two option periods which, if exercised, could extend the work through September 2020.
